Modern Slavery

Human Trafficking

Human trafficking involves the movement of people through coercion or deception for the purpose of forced labour, sexual exploitation, or servitude. Victims may be lured by false promises of work or opportunities, or they may be kidnapped or forced into situations of exploitation. This abhorrent crime violates human rights and exploits vulnerable individuals for profit.

Forced Labour

Forced labour occurs when a person is compelled to work against their will under the threat of punishment. This can involve physical or psychological coercion, or the threat of withholding essential necessities like food or shelter. Forced labour is a severe violation of human rights and often results in exploitation, abuse, and deprivation of freedom.

Debt Bondage

Debt bondage occurs when a person is forced to work to pay off a debt, often with the debt being artificially inflated or never-ending. This form of exploitation traps individuals in a cycle of debt and servitude, denying them their freedom and basic human rights.

Servitude

Servitude is a state of forced labor or subjection to another. In the context of modern slavery and human trafficking, it often involves individuals being coerced or deceived into situations of exploitation, where they are forced to work against their will under threat of punishment or violence.

How We Prevent Modern Slavery

Preventing modern slavery is essential for upholding human rights and ensuring a just and equitable society. Modern slavery, including human trafficking and forced labour, exploits individuals, denies them their freedom, and subjects them to inhumane treatment. By working to prevent modern slavery, we can help to protect vulnerable individuals, dismantle criminal networks, and create a world where everyone has the right to live free from exploitation.
